A batch of macaque bread tree mother trees settling in Xiamen: promoting large-scale planting to support rural revitalization
The baobab tree is known as the "tree of life" in Africa, with high scientific and economic value. Recently, a batch of baobab trees were successfully introduced in Tong'an District, marking the first step in the large-scale cultivation and production of baobab trees in our city.
At the monkey bread tree planting base in Sanxiushan Village, Tong'an District, staff are planting monkey bread trees. Among them, 10 improved varieties of Pierre monkey bread trees, the first generation mother trees, have taken root here and will become an important foundation for future research and breeding of monkey bread trees in the base. This batch of mother trees is 6 years old, each three to four meters tall and weighing about 300 kilograms. They are improved from a rare species in Madagascar, Africa - the Pierre macaque bread tree. Xiamen has a significant geographical and climatic difference with Africa, and it is not easy for the baobab tree to take root here.
Senior agronomist Chen Li: We choose varieties that grow relatively quickly and are widely planted. After domestication, we adapt to the soil conditions and climate here. The original data showed that the baobab tree cannot withstand 0 ℃, and the variety we have cultivated now can still grow normally at -2 ℃.
The baobab tree has become the "tree of life" in Africa, not only with high scientific research value, but also with great economic development potential. Its fruit is sweet, juicy, and nutritious. Its seeds can be used to extract oil and make cosmetics. Its trunk can be used for papermaking, textiles, and handicraft products, which are widely used in food, medicine, textiles, and other fields.
Senior agronomist Chen Li: It can be planted in April and harvested in the same year. One acre of land can produce 4 to 6 tons. According to our current recycling price, the price for one ton is 10000 yuan, and the benefits are quite considerable.
At present, Xiamen Monkey Bread Tree Biotechnology Research Institute Co., Ltd. has opened up a planting base of about 40 acres in Sanxiu Mountain Village, planning functional areas such as research rooms, seedling cultivation areas, and planting areas. In the future, it will create a modern scientific and technological agricultural standard base that integrates seedling cultivation, planting, scientific research, and cultural tourism.
Wang Zhiqiang, General Manager of Xiamen Monkey Bread Tree Biotechnology Research Institute Co., Ltd.: The survival rate of cultivated seedlings has reached 80% to 90%. In the first year, we are still very confident in supplying 100000 seedlings. Enable more farmers and factories with severe homogenization of products to stand out in the social market competition.
