On the 13th, the first generation mother tree of 10 improved varieties of Pierre's baobab trees was successfully introduced in Sanxiu Mountain Village, Wuxian Town, Tong'an District, Xiamen, marking the first step in the large-scale planting and production of baobab trees in Fujian.

It is reported that the baobab tree is a large tree with a lifespan of over 5000 years. In Africa, the baobab tree even has the saying "if you have a tree at home, you don't have to worry about food, drink, and shelter". Due to the large amount of water stored in its trunk, it becomes a water source during drought, providing life-saving water, so it is called the "Tree of Life" by local Africans; Due to its large trunk and special material, it is often hollowed out by local residents and turned into a natural "house" that can serve as a storage room, storing food that will not rot for a long time. The flesh texture of the monkey bread tree is very similar to bread, and when the fruit matures, it will attract many monkeys to eat.

"The baobab tree not only has high scientific research value, but also has ecological protection and economic development potential, and can become a powerful lever for rural revitalization." Wang Zhiqiang, General Manager of Xiamen Baobab Tree Biotechnology Research Institute Co., Ltd., introduced that the baobab tree is full of treasures, and its fruit is rich in amino acids and gum, which can be eaten raw or made into cool drinks and seasonings; The leaves contain high calcium content and can be used as soup, medicine, and to treat sores and diseases; Bark can be used to make strings for ropes and musical instruments, as well as as as raw materials for papermaking or coarse cloth. It is widely used in food, beverages, medicine, textiles, and handicraft products.

It is reported that currently, there are small areas of monkey bread trees planted in Zhangzhou, our province, mainly through experimentation. The batch of mother trees settled in Tong'an this time are 6 years old, each three to four meters tall and weighing about 300 kilograms, specifically used for breeding. Senior agronomist Chen Li introduced that this batch of mother trees was improved from a rare species in Madagascar, Africa - the Pierre macaque bread tree. Due to geographical limitations, the baobab tree is prone to becoming unsuitable for the environment after leaving Africa, making large-scale cultivation quite difficult. After more than 20 years of research and practice, researchers have explored corresponding expansion production technologies.

Wang Zhiqiang introduced that the Sanxiushan Planting Base covers an area of 40 acres and has planned facilities such as a research laboratory, seedling cultivation area, seedling cultivation area, one-year and three-year seedling cultivation area, as well as a water reservoir. It will be developed into a research and breeding center for macaques and bread trees, and establish a modern scientific and technological agricultural standard base that integrates seedling cultivation, planting, scientific research, cultural tourism, and research.
